OUR NEW HEadteacher

Dear all

Following an intensive 2-day interview process we are delighted to announce the appointment of Kealey Sherwood as our substantive Headteacher.

We had a national field of strong candidates and the Ted Wragg Trust and the Local Governing Body are unanimous in the decision to appoint Kealey as Headteacher to continue the momentum of improvement that we have seen since September.

Election fever hits St Luke’s C of E School!

On Tuesday 10th December, ahead of the general election on Thursday 12th, students and staff at St Luke’s headed to the polls to exercise their democratic right to vote.  Making the difficult choice between the major political parties – Conservatives, Labour, Lib Dems, Green and the Brexit Party, students were exposed to a real polling station experience.  The far end of the atrium was transformed into a real polling station with the eager student executive manning the desks and crossing students off the electoral registers, which just happened to resemble tutor group lists.  Earlier in the week, during tutorial time, students discussed the manifestoes of all the different parties and their election promises.

Stepping up to take responsibility were year 11 with the highest voter turnout – a trait that I hope continues as they become eligible to vote in the coming years.  Overall it was an excellent experience for our students, allowing them to experience democracy first hand.  As ever, our students did us proud and embodied our values as a school, showing respect as they treated the whole event with true maturity, giving hope that future generations will really engage in the politics that shape all of our future.

Ten Tors Update

The team have undertaken three practice walks this term and are doing exceptionally well so far. Their navigation skills are developing very well and, most importantly, they are working fantastically well as a team. We start our overnight practice weekends in February which will be the next test for them. This team of amazing students really are living ‘life to the full’.
