Special Educational Needs

At St Luke’s School we do our utmost to support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities(SEND).

We appreciate that SEND can add a layer of additional anxiety and complexity to attending secondary school.

We try hard to work alongside families to support our students in a way that is as inclusive as possible and which will enable them to fulfil their academic potential and prepare effectively for their next steps.

All the information about how we support students with SEND at the school is contained within our SEND report which is an appendix to our SEND policy below.

Children in Care (CIC)

Tamar Busby is also Designated Teacher for Children in Care at St Luke’s.

At St Luke’s we work hard to support our Childen in Care and their support network. We also provide additional support to children who are supported through an SGO or who have previously been in care, if this is required. We work closely with Devon Virtual School and with social care. We hold PEP review meetings at least termly for our Children in Care and try to ensure that they are able to fulfil their potential and access the widest range of additional opportunities during their time with us.

English as an Additional Language (EAL) and Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement (EMTA)

St Luke’s is a welcoming school and benefits from having students from a diverse range of cultures and backgrounds. Mr Tendy Bvumbura ([email protected]) is responsible for overseeing support for our EAL and EMTA students.

We are usually able to arrange interpreter services for meetings once students are on roll with us and we may be able to arrange this for transition meetings if required.
